Smith
titles her music “Jazzfunksoultry” a unique blend of jazz, funk,
R&B, and poetry.
Born in Brooklyn
raised in Queens,
New
York Shoshana
does not just give you spoken word, but creatively meshes her
soulful singing style with sassy lyrics and live musicians. Smith explains, “working
with live musicians is wonderful, it gives me a chance to recreate
my songs from its original structure which I feel enhances and gives
new feeling to the CD and makes the show more personal.”
Shoshana believes life offers many challenges
and she manages to cleverly express those subject matters
through her intoxicating word play and raw, but real topics. Her debut CD titled
“Sassy Lady” takes you on a musical journey from start to finish,
exploring all that life has to offer such as, Cheating lovers,
finding your soul mate, politics, masturbation, life after death and
toxic people are just a few topics this sassy lady will
artistically explore.
Shoshana
Smith is a singer song writer/Poet and spoken word artist who
originally started her career in print journalism. After
majoring in journalism in college Smith became a freelance
journalist for the Norwich Bulletin a Connecticut newspaper where
she wrote featured stories for the Sunday Edition. Although
her articles made the paper each week Smith's editor and Chef would
complain that her writing delivery was to colorful and ask her where
does she herself in five years.
Shoshana
realized that writing about other people's lives was nice but
writing about her own experiences allowed her to be as colorful and
outrages as she wanted to be and in 1998 she went to her first
Poetry Slam. After jumping into the Connecticut, Boston and
New York's poetry scene Smith found herself performing with some of
the Hottest Poets the East cost has to
offer.
“My
Thoughts”
“So
many artists write about shit they can’t even relate to, thinking
that’s what their audience wants to hear. We as artist need to stop
short changing our audiences and give them the respect and the
credit they deserve”.
